1. Ben Benson’s
123 W. 52nd Street
New York, New York 10019
(212) 581-8888
Ben Benson’s features classic steakhouse cuisine: USDA Prime aged beef, veal and lamb and premium-grade seafood, poultry and venison, all at their flavorful peak, prepared simply and perfectly in substantial portions. Succulent entrees, glowing in their juices, are presented solo, with no sauce or garnish. The miracle of the seasoned pros in the kitchen is that it turns out up to 500 perfectly cooked steaks and chops of various degrees of doneness as specified by patrons during a lunch and dinner period.
Over the years, popular demand has established certain other specialties as Ben Benson classics: meaty Maryland crab cakes, lemon-peppered shrimp and roast beef hash.
Within the steakhouse framework, the chefs’ creativity makes the essential difference when it comes to appetizers, soups, salads and side dishes. For the Ben Benson special salad, crunchy chopped vegetables are tossed with anchovies; mashed potatoes are mixed with fresh grated horseradish and Benson fries are literally nuggets of baked potato scooped from the skin and flash deep-fried.
To conclude the dining experience, memories of all-time favorite desserts become realities: the famous and New York’s finest S & S cheesecake, crème brulee, fresh fruit cobbler and award-winning bread pudding with Wild Turkey Bourbon sauce, among others.
